CLERMONT, Fla. - #16 Lebanon Valley improved to 4-0 thanks to a comeback win over Adrian and a wild slugfest victory over Houghton on Tuesday.
The Dutchmen beat Adrian 3-2 thanks to
Allie Hartman's go-ahead RBI single, then used
Sam Ginder's sixth-inning knock to put them over against Houghton.
Game OneA two-run fifth inning propelled LVC in a tight 3-2 win over Adrian to open the day on Tuesday.
Sam Derr threw a three-hit, five-strikeout game while allowing no earned runs as the Dutchmen had to rally back to win.
Adrian put a run on the board in the first when Jessica Sarch scored off a two-out error, but LVC evened it up in the bottom half when
Tessa Deardorff came across on
Allie Hartman's sacrifice fly.
The Bulldogs made it 2-1 when Kaitlyn Hinojosa's triple brought around Sarch in the third, but the Dutchmen found the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth thanks to a two-out rally capped by RBI singles from Derr and Hartman. Meanwhile, Derr allowed just one hit over the final four innings as she shut down Adrian to improve to 2-0.
Kelsey Meyer (2-1) took the loss for Adrian.
Game TwoAfter two scoreless innings, LVC's matchup with Houghton turned into a slugfest as the sides combined for 20 runs in an 11-9 Dutchmen victory. Houghton went ahead 1-0 in the third, but LVC responded with four in the bottom half on RBIs by
Katie Deardorff, Hartman,
Sam Ginder, and
Angela Harris.
Houghton answered with four of their own in the fourth, manufacturing their runs in an inning extended by an errors, then adding four more in the fifth keyed by a bases-loaded triple by Sam Patoff.
LVC's rally started in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game with four runs led by Derr's pinch-hit double to plate two, and Ginder and Harris knocked in the go-ahead runs in the sixth after Bost and Deardorff walked and singled, respectively.
Holly Langdon made the start for LVC, departing after four innings with nine strikeouts;
Jasmine Dutton threw an inning of relief before
Haley Neff (2-0) picked up the win with two hitless innings.
The Dutchmen enjoy an off day Wednesday before returning for two on Thursday.
