ANNVILLE, Pa. -
Allie Hartman's extra-innings walk-off won the opener, and
Haley Neff helped herself at the plate to earn the win in game two as #14 Lebanon Valley improved to 9-0 with two wins over Elizabethtown.
The Dutchmen won 4-3 in eight innings before slugging out an 8-1 victory in the nightcap.
Sam Derr (4-0) earned the win in game one, then had a home run as staffmate Neff (4-0) hit a pair of RBI doubles while scattering six hits in the circle.
The wins extended the best-ever start for Lebanon Valley, who were playing for the first time in two weeks since returning from Florida over spring break. LVC and Elizabethtown were in an unfamiliar place meeting as non-conference rivals; the Blue Jays (3-9) left the Commonwealth Conference for the Landmark Conference this past offseason.
Game One
Hartman's walk-off in the eighth capped a wild ending to game one after Elizabethtown rallied back to force extras in the seventh. LVC led 2-1 heading into the inning, but Kaylee Werner's lead-off single and an error led to Laura Tomasetti singling in the tying run with two outs.
With the international tiebreaker in effect, Mandy Sheckard sacrificed Maeve McGill over to third, and Kirsten Blass' single scored her on the next at-bat to take a 3-2 lead. Derr induced a pair of outs to end the threat, and LVC wasted no time in tying the game as
Sammy Bost doubled in
Jorey Aumiller. Bost advanced to third on a dropped third strike to Derr, and that set up Hartman's single over the second baseman's glove to win the game.
Earlier in the game, LVC had taken a 1-0 lead in the first when Derr knocked in
Tessa Deardorff following her lead-off triple, but Jess White tied it in the fourth with a single to plate Blass. Derr retook the lead with a full-count single in the bottom of that inning after Bost led off with a hit and stole second.
Derr allowed one earned run in eight innings of work, striking out five and not issuing a walk. Tomasetti (0-4) allowed three earned with a strikeout for Elizabethtown.
Game Two
Led by Neff's three RBI at the plate and multi-hit games by Bost, Hartman, and
Katie Deardorff, LVC cruised in the second game, 8-1.
Bost put LVC ahead 1-0 in the first, stealing third and advancing home after a throwing error by the catcher failed to get her stealing. Neff doubled in a pair of runs in the second before Hartman plated her later in the inning to lead 4-0, and Neff added another RBI double to score
Kelli Valle in the fifth.
McGill pulled a run back for Elizabethtown in the sixth, but LVC piled on the damage in the bottom of the frame with Derr blasting a two-run homer to right and
Sam Ginder singling through the left side to score
Kim Ortiz-Marrero.
Neff threw a strong game to improve to 4-0, striking out seven. Justyna Pepkowski (1-2) pitched 5.1 innings and struck out six with seven earned runs allowed as Keli Krause finished the game for the Blue Jays.
Next Game
Lebanon Valley will host Widener in the Commonwealth Conference opener Saturday.
