Photo GalleryANNVILLE, Pa. – On a rain-soaked Arnold Field, the Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse team triumphed over Susquehanna on Wednesday afternoon, 13-10.
Junior
Bailey Benz, the nation's leader in assists, recorded a six-point outing with three goals and three helpers, while senior
Mel Modrick added a hat trick of her own with three goals. Additionally, junior
Anna Pagels and sophomores
Tori Kuntz and
Sam Boyce tallied two goals apiece for the Dutchmen.
Susquehanna, nationally ranked until this past week's poll had them the first team out, came out in the opening eight minutes and jumped to a 3-1 lead with 22:39 left to play in the half. However, four of the next five came off LVC sticks to give the Valley the 5-4 lead over the next 17 minutes. A goal from each side to close out the half sent the teams into the locker room with the Dutchmen on top, 6-5.
In the second, the Crusaders started well again, connecting on four of the first six goals to take a 9-8 edge at the 23:31 mark. However, the Valley responded with three straight goals to take an 11-9 advantage and worked the clock to secure the 13-10 victory in the end.
Susquehanna was riddled with penalties all game long, earning five cards including three disqualifications. LVC held a 29-19 edge in shots and a 14-11 advantage in draw controls.
Sophomore
Shelby Morris earned her fifth win this season in the cage, making three saves and relying on a great defensive effort in front from starting defenders senior
Sara Vanderbogart, junior
Morgan Heller, and freshman
Laura Schmidt. The Crusaders' Alyssa Rothman recorded 11 saves in defeat.
Next up for the Valley is a trip to Misericordia on Saturday. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
