Men’s Lax Falls in Opener to Frostburg State, 11-4

FROSTBURG, Md. – Six first-period goals led Frostburg State over the Lebanon Valley men's lacrosse team in its season opener on Saturday afternoon, 11-4.

The Bobcats held the edge in every statistical category, holding advantages in shots (39-20), ground balls (42-26), and faceoffs (13-for-19). The Valley failed to convert on its three extra-man opportunities, while Frostburg went 50%, going 1-for-2.

Senior goalie Mike Moll was impressive in his season debut, making 11 saves and allowing 10 goals in the loss. Sophomore Kevin Krasley finished out the game between the pipes, allowing one goal and making a save.

Seniors Malik Pedroso, Matt Roupe, Andrew Dennison, and Scott Travers were the goal-scorers for the Dutchmen, while the Bobcats' Ryan Serio posted a hat trick and an assist for four points on the day. Frostburg scored the first eight goals to sufficiently finish off the game early, taking a 6-0 lead into the second quarter and a 7-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Dennison finally got the Dutchmen on the board at the 8:08 mark in the third and Travers followed at 5:22 with his scoring tally. Unfortunately, three Frostburg goals also came in the third period and the game headed to the final 15 minutes with the score at 10-2.

Roupe and Pedroso netted the only goals in the final quarter to push the final score to 11-4. The Valley hosts Mitchell in its home opener on Saturday at 1 p.m.
