ANNVILLE, Pa. - On Saturday night, Dec. 6, Lebanon Valley's ice hockey program will host its fifth annual Military Appreciation Night when the Flying Dutchmen host the United States Naval Academy at Hersheypark Arena.
As the team has done in years past, Lebanon Valley will be auctioning off special jerseys that each player will wear for one night only against Navy. The auction is currently accepting bids online at GoDutchmen.com and will remain open until Friday, Dec. 5, at 4 p.m. Bids will also be accepted in-person at the Bears Den inside Hersheypark Arena on the night of the game until the start of the third period.
CLICK HERE TO BID NOWAdmission to the game is free, but donations towards the veterans' charities PA Wounded Warriors, Keystone Wounded Warriors, and LEEK Hunting and Mountain Preserve are appreciated.
There will also be a silent auction held at Hersheypark Arena on the night of the contest. Items up for bid include a Philadelphia Eagles football helmet signed by New York Jets quarterback Michael Vick, an Eagles mini-helmet signed by Washington Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson, and a football autographed by Eagles cornerback Brandon Boykin.
The Navy Club of Lebanon will also be making a monetary donation to the cause and a representative of the club will take part in the pregame ceremony by dropping the puck prior to the start of the contest.
Limited edition Lebanon Valley College Military Appreciation Night t-shirts are also available for purchase and will continue to be on sale until the end of the game on Saturday night. The shirts will also be on sale at Sorrentino Gymnasium during Lebanon Valley's basketball doubleheader against Hood this Wednesday night and the men's team will be donning the shirts during pregame warmups.
Proceeds from the jersey auction, the silent auction, the Navy Club of Lebanon gift, and the t-shirt sale will be donated to the PA Wounded Warriors, the Keystone Wounded Warriors, and the LEEK Hunting and Mountain Preserve, all of which are dedicated to aiding veterans and their families in the state of Pennsylvania. Lebanon Valley has raised nearly $75,000 since the school's first Military Appreciation Night held five years ago.
Servicemen and women from Fort Indiantown Gap will be in attendance on game night and a military color guard will be present for the singing of the national anthem and a performance of "Taps" by a Lebanon Valley student prior to the start of the contest.
The event will culminate with the on-ice matchup between #23 Lebanon Valley and the visiting Midshipmen at 7 p.m.
