Bost Makes History; Dutchmen Leave No Doubt In ECAC Quarterfinals

ANNVILLE, Pa.Sammy Bost's second hat trick of the season only accounted for half of Lebanon Valley's scoring output in the team's 6-0 blanking of Waynesburg in ECAC championship tournament action on Wednesday afternoon.  With her trio of goals, the sophomore stud set the program's single season record for total points with 44.

Freshman Meghan Ross, sophomore Laura Zimmermann, and senior Amanda Douglass got into the scoring act with a goal apiece.  Thanks to their quarterfinal victory, the Flying Dutchmen will host the remainder of the 2014 ECAC South Championship Tournament this weekend.

After staving off an aggressive, five minute opening push by the Yellow Jackets, it was all Lebanon Valley the rest of the way.  Ross put the home team ahead early when she floated a shot over the head of Waynesburg goalkeeper Ciara Scott in the 13th minute.  Freshman Teanna Shutt assisted on the goal.

Bost followed it up by scoring three-straight to give LVC some breathing room.  Her first came when she finished off a Douglass cross from in close in the 14th minute.  She fired home her second straightaway off an assist from Ross less than four minutes later.  In a matter of just 6:20, the Dutchmen offense scored three times and took complete control of the contest.

Bost put the finishing touches on her latest hat trick when she hooked up with fellow CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District honoree Alexa Muffly four minutes into the second half.  The junior defender prevented Waynesburg's clearing attempt and instead found Bost in the Yellow Jacket box.  Bost's third goal of the day and team-leading 19th of the season placed her alone atop LVC's all-time points list.

In the 64th minute, Ross found Zimmermann darting down the center of the field for the Dutchmen's fifth score of the afternoon.  Ross' pass from the right side deflected off a Waynesburg defender and landed at her teammate's feet.  Zimmerman did the rest, beating her closest defender and Scott in the process.

Douglass capped the scoring with a nifty corner kick from the right end line that deflected off Scott's hands and into the back of the net in the 75th minute.  The goal was her ninth of the year.

Lebanon Valley turned in another dominant performance in which they outshot their opponent 25-8 overall and 14-3 in the SOG category.  They also held a 5-2 corner kick advantage.  The Blue and White backline added another strong outing to its already stellar 2014 campaign as Muffly, sophomore Kristin Robeson, and freshmen Emmie Santoleri and Taylor Kleeschulte played so well that LVC sophomore goalkeepers Taylor Reinhold and Amy Overpeck were forced to make just three total saves on the day.

With the win, the top-seeded Dutchmen were assured of home field advantage for the rest of the ECAC tournament.  They will host #5-seeded McDaniel at Herbert Field at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.  The Green Terror knocked off #4-seeded DeSales 3-0 earlier in the day.  Whichever squad emerges victorious in that semifinal matchup will earn a spot in the league's championship game the next afternoon.
