LVC Makes It Look Easy In Sweep of Albright

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Flying Dutchmen made it look easy during their 3-0 sweep of Commonwealth Conference foe Albright at Sorrentino Gymnasium on Wednesday night, Oct. 8.  Lebanon Valley trailed just twice early in the second and third sets and easily handled the visitors by set scores of 25-14, 25-18, and 25-12.

LVC opened the match with a 5-0 run and led by as many as nine points midway through the first set before senior captain Kayla Confer put the game away with a kill off an assist by fellow senior captain Kacey Musselman

The Lions showed resolve in set number two when they used a 6-2 run midway through the game to close an early double-digit deficit to a more manageable 21-17 margin.  A combined three late kills by junior Alli Quirk and Confer, however, put an end to the threat and put the Dutchmen up 2-0.

Set three was all LVC.  With the score knotted at 8-8, Lebanon Valley put together a 17-4 run that saw junior Emily Sides' final service run of four straight Dutchmen points cap the match.

Sophomore Greta Weidemoyer did the most damage offensively for LVC, racking up a match-high 14 kills.  Quirk added eight of her own and hit an impressive .571 for the match while Sides pitched in with six kills.

Junior libero Allie Garrett shined defensively with a match-best 25 digs.  The Dutchmen dug out 48 total balls on the night with ten different players contributing to that total.  Quirk and Sides each notched a solo block while Weidemoyer and fellow sophomore Taylor Troutman teamed up for another.

Musselman was her usual do-it-all self as she assisted on 35 LVC tallies and added four kills and two service aces.  Sophomore Rachel Moltz had a big outing in the service department and racked up four aces.  Sides was also on point, earning three-straight service aces in the first set.  As a team, the Dutchmen totaled 13 aces on the night.

The victory improved Lebanon Valley to 17-4 on the season and 3-1 in Commonwealth play.  The Dutchmen leave the friendly confines of Sorrentino Gymnasium and travel to Hood for another league contest in their next matchup on Tuesday night, Oct. 14.  First serve is set for 7 p.m.
