ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley got off to another one of its signature quick starts and never let up as the Flying Dutchmen shut out Alfred 4-0 on Saturday evening, Oct. 4 at Herbert Field. LVC freshman
Meghan Ross scored twice in the game's first seven minutes while fellow freshman
Teanna Shutt and sophomore
Sammy Bost netted a goal apiece to leave no doubt.
Ross put the home team ahead in the third minute when she gathered a deflected pass in the Saxons' box and put her attempt past Alfred goalkeeper Sammy Jo Shanahan. She wasted little time doubling the Dutchmen advantage when she corralled another deflected ball, made a quick move past a Saxon defender, and lofted her shot into the upper half of the Alfred net in the sixth minute. Her pair of early strikes were the 12th and 13th LVC goals scored this season within a game's opening ten minutes.
Lebanon Valley continued to dominate the first half offensively and outshot the visitors 16-2 in the period. Shutt converted one of those attempts into a score when sophomore
Kristin Robeson made a pass into the Alfred box that she was able to gather before making a turn and firing from the left side. Her shot found twine and upped LVC's lead to 3-0 in the 23rd minute.
Bost capped the scoring early in the second half, the result of well-executed one touch soccer. Sophomore
Laura Zimmermann dribbled past a Saxon defender and made a quick pass to fellow sophomore
Johnna Garbrick who found Bost on a quick touch darting towards the Alfred goal. Bost finished in close in the 51st minute.
In terms of offensive aggressiveness, this one was no contest. For the game, Lebanon Valley outshot the Saxons 30-2, including 18 targeted attempts.
The dominant victory improved LVC to 8-1-1 on the season and kept the team undefeated in its last eight contests. The Dutchmen now turn their attention to conference play as they host Albright in the squad's first Commonwealth matchup of the season on Tuesday evening, Oct. 7. Kickoff at Herbert Field is set for 4 p.m.
