FREDERICK, Md. – Lebanon Valley's women's soccer team tied the program record for most wins in a single season thanks to a 5-1 trouncing of Commonwealth Conference opponent Hood on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 29. The Flying Dutchmen picked up their 14th victory of the year thanks to two first half goals from sophomore
Sammy Bost and a score each from freshmen
Teanna Shutt and
Meghan Ross and sophomore
Mackenzie Murray.
Bost has been a catalyst for LVC's fast starts and things were no different against the Blazers. The Dutchmen's leading-scorer netted her first goal of the game in the sixth minute. It was the team's 17th score in the opening ten minutes of a contest this season. Her second goal came off an assist from sophomore
Johnna Garbrick in the 18th minute. The pair of scores were Bost's 15th and 16th of the season.
Hood avoided being shut out when Kylie Armstrong got the home team on the board late in the first half off a corner kick from Samantha Norris.
Following the break, it was all Lebanon Valley as the Dutchmen converted two scores in a 31 second span midway through the period. Shutt headed home her eighth goal of the season off an assist by sophomore
Kristin Robeson in the 58th minute and before the Blazers knew what hit them, Ross added her fifth score of the year just moments later. Garbrick added the assist on LVC's fourth goal of the day.
Murray put the finishing touches on the decisive victory with a goal in the 82nd minute. Reigning MAC Commonwealth Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week in junior
Rachel Cummings assisted on the play. The score was Murray's fourth of the fall.
The Dutchmen were in control from the start and outshot the home team 28-3 overall and 11-2 in the shots on goal category. As it has proven to have a knack for doing over the team's last several outings, the Blue and White backline was so good that sophomore goalkeeper
Taylor Reinhold was forced to make just one stop on the afternoon.
The late-season win improved Lebanon Valley to 14-2-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference play. After tying the school-record for single season victories held by the 2000 squad, the Dutchmen have a chance to take over sole possession of that mark with a win in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1. LVC hosts Stevenson at Herbert Field in a game that will decide the final seedings for the upcoming Commonwealth Conference postseason tournament. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
