ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley and Stevenson squared off in a battle of 2014 Commonwealth Conference playoff teams at Herbert Field on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1. Unfortunately for the Flying Dutchmen, the visitors emerged victorious and ended LVC's recent five-game win-streak with a hard-fought 2-0 win.
Two headers off corner kicks proved the difference for the Mustangs with one coming in the game's 34th minute and the second coming in the 73rd. Kaylie Yapps netted the game-winner while Kellen Wittman converted the second-half score. Allie Ondrejcak assisted on both goals thanks to a pair of perfectly placed corners.
Lebanon Valley created some chances late in the second half but were never able to convert the equalizer prior to Stevenson's second score. Freshman
Meghan Ross had a look in the 54th minute but Mustang goalkeeper Tiffany McKee made the stop. Ross, freshman
Teanna Shutt, and sophomore
Johnna Garbrick got off an attempt each with LVC still trailing 1-0 but none of them were on target.
Trailing 2-0 late in the game, Ross again got off a shot in close but again McKee made the save. Sophomore
Laura Zimmermann had a chance in the 84th minute but her attempt sailed left of the Stevenson net.
The Mustangs outshot the Blue and White 16-8 overall and 8-3 in the shots on goal category. Stevenson also held the advantage in corner kicks by a 6-1 margin. Despite allowing two goals, Dutchmen sophomore goalkeeper
Taylor Reinhold made six stops on the day, including two athletic saves from point-blank range in the game's opening moments.
The loss in the regular season finale dropped Lebanon Valley to 14-3-1 on the season and 6-2 in Commonwealth Conference play. The 14-win season ties the 2014 team with the 2000 squad for the most victories by a team in program history.
Due to a goal-differential tie-breaker, Stevenson will play host to the league's postseason tournament beginning next week. LVC, the tournament's #3 seed, will travel to #2-seeded Messiah for a semifinal matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Complete Commonwealth Conferece postseason tournament dates and times will be announced Sunday afternoon.
