Cummings' Game-Winner Lifts LVC Over Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley junior Rachel Cummings' third goal of the season proved to be her biggest yet as her score held up as the game-winner in the Flying Dutchmen's 1-0 road victory over Commonwealth Conference foe Arcadia on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25.  The win broke a tie with the Knights in the league standings and kept LVC's hopes of hosting a conference tournament semifinal contest alive.

In a defensive struggle that saw both teams combine for just seven total shots on goal, Cummings' score was all the Dutchmen needed to earn the victory.  Freshman Emmie Santoleri struck a perfectly placed volley from the left side of the Arcadia net off a free kick that Cummings was able to finish off with the deciding goal in the 51st minute.  The assist was Santoleri's first of the season.

The Knights had few chances to draw even.  One of their three targeted chances came late in the second half when Kayla Haberbosch got off an attempt but LVC sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Reinhold made the crucial stop in the 77th minute.  Reinhold made three saves on the afternoon.

Arcadia's defense kept them in it as Dutchmen leading scorers in sophomore Sammy Bost, senior Amanda Douglass, and freshman Teanna Shutt combined for just two targeted attempts.  The Blue and White defense performed just as well as the Knights managed just two shots on goal in the second half.  LVC also turned away all ten of Arcadia's corner kick opportunities.

The victory improved Lebanon Valley to 13-2-1 overall and 5-1 in Commonwealth play.  The Dutchmen sit third in the league's pecking order behind the top-ranked team in the nation in Messiah and Stevenson.  Both schools are 5-0-1 in conference play and fought to a draw in their only meeting earlier this fall.  LVC will get a chance to ascend even further when they take on Hood on Wednesday, Oct. 29 before returning home and hosting Stevenson in their season-finale on Saturday, Nov. 1.
