Arcadia Defeats Dutchmen By Slimmest of Margins

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker on the road to Commonwealth Conference foe Arcadia on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 25.  Despite getting off more shots on goal than the hometown Knights, the equalizer the Flying Dutchmen needed to extend the contest and possibly their postseason chances never materialized.

LVC was outshooting Arcadia 2-1 in the targeted attempts category when the home team flipped the script and netted the eventual game-winner in the matchup's 36th minute.  The Knights' Nick Morris struck his shot from the six yard box into the center of the Dutchmen net and gave his squad a 1-0 lead it wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way.

Freshman Tyler Skye got off two shots on goal early in the second half but Arcadia goalkeeper Chris Watson was game and made stops on both attempts.  Skye had a third effort blocked with less than two minutes remaining, as did sophomore John McHale.

The Dutchmen had twice as many corner kick opportunities as Arcadia (6-3) but came away empty on all tries.  The visitors held advantages in both total shots (14-8) and shots on goal (6-4).  Despite allowing the game's lone score, LVC freshman goalkeeper Cam Avery kept his team in it by making three big saves on the day.

The close loss dropped Lebanon Valley to 6-8-2 on the year and 2-3-1 in conference play.  The hard-fought defeat dropped the Dutchmen to seventh in the Commonwealth standings and put the team's chances of earning a spot in the league's 2014 postseason tournament in jeopardy.  LVC will look to get back on track and pick up another valuable conference victory when they travel to Hood for their next matchup on Tuesday night, Oct. 28.
