READING, Pa. – Lebanon Valley scored first and scored last in the span of 33 minutes and picked up their third Commonwealth Conference victory of the season; a 4-1 decision over Alvernia on Saturday, Oct. 18. For the second-straght game, senior
Amanda Douglass scored twice while sophomores
Sammy Bost and
Mackenzie Murray netted a goal apiece.
After a long first half scoreless stint, Douglass got the visitors on the board first when she took advantage of Crusader goalkeeper Jessica Plunkett being out of position and put her shot into the back of the net in the 35th minute. Bost assisted on the score.
It didn't take long for Bost to also get into the scoring act as she gathered a through ball less than three minutes later and put her attempt past Plunkett to make it 2-0 LVC late in the first half. The goal was her team-leading 11th of the season.
Alvernia cut the deficit in half early in the second period when Erica Dunkelberger ripped a shot from 30 yards out over the head of Flying Dutchmen sophomore goalkeeper
Taylor Reinhold and into the twine in the 48th minute.
Douglass gave Lebanon Valley some breathing room ten minutes later when she corralled a through ball and curled her attempt over Plunkett and in in the 58th minute. She assisted on the Dutchmen's final score of the day just 18 seconds later when she snuck her pass through a group of defenders to Murray. Murray drove towards the Alvernia net and put her shot between the posts to cap the scoring at the 58:30 mark.
LVC outshot the Crusaders 22-4 on the day and held a 13-2 advantage in the shots on goal department. The Dutchmen defense played well, limiting Alvernia's offensive chances as Reinhold needed to make just one save on the afternoon to preserve the win.
The victory improved Lebanon Valley to 11-2-1 on the year and 3-1 in Commonwealth play. The Dutchmen return home for another league contest in their next outing against Widener on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Kickoff at Herbert Field is set for 4 p.m.
