Dutchmen Drop League Outing To Talented Lycoming Squad

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lebanon Valley hung with the 2013 Commonwealth Conference champions from  Lycoming for 60 minutes on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 14 before the hometown Warriors pulled away in the game's final third en route to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Flying Dutchmen.

LVC freshman goalkeeper Cam Avery withstood nine first half shots from the defending league champs and made saves on four targeted attempts before the Warriors got things going midway through the second period.

Lycoming's Jordan Logan put the home team on the board first when he finished off Luke Klinger's free kick attempt in the 60th minute.  The Warriors wasted little time striking again when Nathan Harding put his shot into the lower right side of the Dutchmen goal following a steal and fast break less than five minutes later.  Abdullahi Abdi found Keenthy Yeboah on a short pass and Yeboah netted his third goal of the season in the 82nd minute and Nick Neverman converted a penalty kick following an LVC foul inside the visitors' box to cap the scoring in the 87th.

Avery made eight saves on the night, a solid number considering the Warriors got off 12 shots on goal and 20 total attempts.  Lebanon Valley struggled a bit offensively and managed eight shots on the day, only four of which were on target.

Senior Connor McDonald, junior Brian Lowe, and freshmen Tyler Skye and Ethan Abdalla all managed shots on goal for the Dutchmen but unfortunately failed to find twine.

The game was a rematch of last year's Commonwealth Conference postseason tournament semifinal matchup between the two squads and appeared to be headed towards a similar finish from a year ago; a defensive struggle that ended in double overtime.  This time around, however, the Warriors were able to come through on some second half chances that they failed to take advantage of in the first.

The outing was Lebanon Valley's second-straight against an extremely talented team.  After pushing #1 Messiah to the brink this past Saturday, the Dutchmen were faced with another tough test against the team that upset the two-time defending national champions in the Commonwealth tourney last fall.

LVC is now 5-7-1 on the season and 1-2 in league play.  They'll look to make a push back towards the .500 mark when they travel to Alvernia for another conference outing on Saturday, Oct. 18.  Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
