Lebanon Valley College 70, Alvernia University 62

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley women's basketball team led from the opening tip to the final buzzer in a tightly-contested victory over Alvernia inside LVC Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, 70-62.

The win keeps the Valley undefeated in conference play at 4-0 and moves the Dutchmen to 10-1 on the year overall. Additionally, it sets up a battle for first place with fellow unbeaten Elizabethtown on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Peyton Carper led a balanced attack for LVC with 14 points, while junior Kiely Chaklos and freshman Lexie Lantz joined her in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

LVC dominated on the glass again, holding a 42-29 rebounding advantage, and forced Alvernia into 19 turnovers on the day. The Crusaders' Kaitlyn Yoh led all scorers with 19 points.

In a game that started at a very slow pace with the 10th point coming less than six minutes into the contest, a 6-0 run for LVC at the 8:48 mark gave the Valley a seven-point cushion and a manageable lead midway through the first half.

A back-and-forth half saw the Dutchmen grow their lead to as many as 11, but the Crusaders fought back, going into the locker room with the score, 31-25.

The second half began much like the first as both teams traded baskets and the lead remained in the high single digits for the majority of the stanza. A layup from freshman Ellen Bair at the 6:13 mark sparked a 7-1 LVC run that saw the Dutchmen take a 61-53 lead with under four minutes remaining.

The Crusaders couldn't get to closer than five points in the final moments and LVC held on for the 70-62 victory.

Next up for the Valley is a trip to Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
