Box Score Women's Basketball
Lebanon Valley College 74, Albright College 64
READING, Pa. – Junior
Kiely Chaklos led all scorers with 18 points and the Lebanon Valley women's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a 74-64 win over Albright in Reading on Saturday afternoon.
The win moves LVC to 13-2 on the year and 7-1 in Commonwealth Conference play, sitting in a tie for first place with Stevenson. Albright slides to 9-6 on the year and 3-5 in conference action.
The Dutchmen snipers were on point, draining 52.6% of their shots from the field (30-for-57) and knocking down five of their 13 three-point field goal attempts (38.5%). Sophomores
Taylor Umbrell,
Bridget Rothert, and
Peyton Carper accompanied Chaklos with double-digit scoring on the afternoon with 11, 10, and 10 points respectively.
Both teams came out firing in the opening half as entertaining back-and-forth scoring ensued in a tight affair. Five straight points from the Dutchmen late and an and-one layup from senior
Lauren Ruhl preceded a distance shot at the buzzer from Albright in a flurry at the end of the half to push the game into the break with the Dutchmen on top, 40-35.
It didn't take long in the second half for the Dutchmen to come alive as three straight threes, two from Rothert and the third from Chaklos, sparked an 11-0 run that opened the Valley lead to 14 at 53-39 with 16:29 to play in the game.
A layup from Albright's Jessica Venturelli at the 6:40 mark cut the LVC lead to six, but back-to-back buckets from Chaklos and a three from Umbrell ceased the comeback and the Dutchmen hung on for a 74-64 victory.
Next up for the Valley is a meeting with Hood on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m.
