Late Tally Sinks Women’s Soccer

Box Score Women's Soccer
Haverford College 2, Lebanon Valley College 1

ANNVILLE, Pa. – In a back-and-forth affair at Herbert Field on Wednesday afternoon, a late tally from Haverford was the deciding factor in a 2-1 defeat for Lebanon Valley women's soccer.

Just five minutes into the contest, Haverford's Connie Friedman found space down the middle of the field and let a shot rip to the right of LVC senior goalkeeper Becca Sykes into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The goal broke a three-game scoreless streak for Sykes, allowing a goal for the first time since Sept. 13 vs. Wilkes.

That scoreline would hold into the halftime break before junior Amanda Douglass and freshman Sammy Bost linked up in the 59th minute to even the game. Bost, streaking down the sideline, was able to get a cross in to Douglass' feet, who beat a defender and finished in the right corner for the tying tally.

Unfortunately for the Dutchmen, the defense broke down in the 78th minute as Haverford's Meg Boyer found Mariah Baker wide open at the top of the 18. Baker sent a rocket over the outstretched arm of Sykes for the gamewinner.

Shots were even in the contest with nine on each side, while corner kicks were also deadlocked at three apiece. The Fords' goalkeeper, Robin Chernow, earned her second win of the season, making four saves.

Douglass led the Valley offensively with three shots, while Bost and senior Allison Korns each posted two shots. Sykes and the Dutchmen fall to 4-3-2 on the year.

Next up for LVC is a trip to Wilkes-Barre on Saturday to take on King's at 4:30 p.m.
