ANNVILLE, Pa. - Sam Derr twirled a two-hit gem to win her 20th game of the season, advancing Lebanon Valley past Hood, 2-0, on Day 1 of the Commonwealth Conference Tournament.

The top-seeded Dutchmen (30-5-1) move on to face second seed Alvernia Saturday at 11 a.m. in a winners' bracket game. Alvernia beat Messiah, 8-2, in their opener.

Derr faced just one over the minimum, carrying a perfect game into the fifth in a 71-pitch effort to improve to 20-4. Tessa Deardorff scored both of LVC's runs in a 3-for-3 day, and became the only sophomore in program history to reach 100 career hits with her lead-off single.

After Deardorff got on to start the first, Derr singled her over to second before Steffani Secola grounded out to move both runners up. Kelli Valle knocked in the run on a fielder's choice when the third baseman elected to send her slow roller home and Deardorff got in under the tag.

The Dutchmen doubled the lead in the third when Deardorff again led off with a single, and after Derr advanced her to second, Hartman's shot to left center brought the run in for the 2-0 lead. LVC left the bases loaded in the 4th and 6th, but couldn't plate more runs as Hood starter Keerstie Robinson (15-11) limited the damage.

In earlier action, Hood defeated Stevenson 5-1 and Alvernia beat Messiah 8-2 in opening-round games. That set up an elimination game between Stevenson and Messiah, which Stevenson won 2-1 in nine innings. Hood and Stevenson will meet again in a losers' bracket game Saturday at 1 p.m.
