WESTMINSTER, Md. - Lebanon Valley women's lacrosse captured the first trophy in its young history, winning the 2013 ECAC Mid-Atlantic championship 14-10 at McDaniel on Sunday.
Tournament most outstanding player
Hana Krechel had six assists after her seven-goal, three-assist semifinal performance on Saturday to guide the Dutchmen (13-5) to the title. The win established a new record for wins in a season for the fourth-year program. Krechel ends her career with 410 points, ranking third all-time in NCAA Division III.
The Dutchmen were making their second ECAC appearance after making it to the semifinals last year. They were the top seed in this year's tournament, knocking off FDU-Florham in the semifinals 18-10 to advance to Sunday's final.
Anna Pagels,
Mel Modrick, and
Sam Boyce each had hat tricks for LVC, which had to overcome a 6-3 halftime disadvantage by scoring the first seven goals of the second. The Dutchmen outscored the Green Terror (11-9) 11-4 after halftime.
Corinne Palombo made 10 saves in goal, holding McDaniel to 2-for-8 on free-position chances.
Tori Kuntz had another big game in midfield with four draw controls and two caused turnovers to go with two goals.
McDaniel outshot LVC 31-26 and held the Dutchmen to just 11-of-21 on clears, but LVC's big open to the second half doomed the Green Terror as LVC took the lead with four goals in a 3:55 span and never gave it up. After a frustrating first half saw LVC turn it over 10 times, the Dutchmen won the first draws of the second and scored on each of them to control the game.
