Widener 9, Lebanon Valley 5
CHESTER, Pa. - Widener staged a second-half rally to overcome Lebanon Valley's halftime lead and win, 9-5, in Commonwealth Conference play Wednesday night.
The Dutchmen (5-4, 0-2 CC) led 5-4 at the half, but the Pride (6-3, 2-0 CC) scored the first five goals of the third quarter, ultimately holding LVC to just a single score in the half.
Widener outshot the guests 40-18, including 21-8 in the second half, and held LVC to just 12-for-25 on clears.
Mike Moll had an excellent 14-save effort in goal to keep the Dutchmen in it, while Mac Nestler stopped five for the win.
Malik Pedroso,
Ian Schmid,
Matt Aldridge,
Steve Wildberger, and
Scott Sutton each scored for the Dutchmen. Ryan Eidenshink and Josh Fox each scored hat tricks for Widener.
Sutton scored off the opening face-off and Schmid added a second to help LVC lead 2-0 after the first quarter, while Pedroso added another to start the second. Fox and Eidenshink got two goals back before Wildberger made it 4-2 with 6:29 left in the half, but Johnny Casey scored man-up to end the half with LVC lead 4-3.
Widener went on a 5-0 run to start the second half, however, to take control of the game, swinging the score to 8-4 before Aldridge scored from
Ian Schmid to end the third quarter. Fox had the fourth quarter's only goal.
The Dutchmen will return home Saturday to host Hood.
