Lebanon Valley 8, Elizabethtown 7 (OT)
ANNVILLE, Pa. -
Jordan Mayr scored 2:59 into overtime to send Lebanon Valley past Elizabethtown, 8-7, and into the Commonwealth Conference tournament on Senior Day
With both teams facing win-or-go-home situations for the final game of the regular season, the Blue Jays (8-6, 3-5 CC) matched the Dutchmen (10-5, 5-3 CC) all game long until Mayr's breakthrough in overtime. Elizabethtown outshot LVC 41-27, but a superb 17-save performance by
Mike Moll helped propel the Dutchmen.
LVC will host Messiah Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. in a game carried live by LVCtv. Before Saturday's game, LVC honored its eight-member senior class, the first to spend four years in the program since it was re-established in 2010.
Mayr's winner was his third of the game, his second hat trick of the season, and
Klayton Garman had two goals and an assist.
Alex Beard,
Ian Schmid, and
Scott Travers also had strikes for LVC. Dillen O'Dell had three goals for E-town.
The teams alternated goals in the first half to head to the break deadlocked 3-3, but Garman sparked a 3-0 run to open the second half, followed by Travers and Beard to make it 6-3. E-town responded with their own three-goal spurt, but Mayr put LVC on top 7-6 with 3:19 to go before Tucker Keefer hit at 2:51 to tie it.
In overtime, the Jays won the face-off, but
Ian Repko came up with a key caused turnover of O'Dell to take possession. Out of an LVC timeout, Mayr rifled a shot from the left side with 1:01 showing on the clock, sending the Dutchmen to their second consecutive CC Tournament appearance.
Moll was outstanding all game long, but shined in the second half with 10 of his 17 saves. Chris Wenger stopped eight for E-town.
Ryan Lanigan had another big game on defense with five caused turnovers;
Andrew Kruter had three and Repko two with four ground balls.
