M. Lax Edges Lyco, 5-4, For Key Win

Box Score Men's Lacrosse
Lebanon Valley 5, Lycoming 4

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Matt Aldridge's late goal gave Lebanon Valley a critical win over Lycoming, 5-4, putting LVC's destiny in their own hands for a postseason berth.

The Dutchmen (9-5, 4-3 CC) now face a win-and-in situation Saturday at home against Elizabethtown. A victory would give LVC the #4 seed.

Scoring was at a premium despite 69 combined shots in the game, and the game remained tied at 4-4 until late in the fourth quarter when Aldridge scored from Ian Schmid - Schmid's 100th career point - to put LVC on top.

Lycoming's Steve Troup opened the scoring early in the game, and Alex Beard knotted it before Matt McCaffer rattled off the next two goals for Lyco to lead 3-1. The Dutchmen tied it up by halftime, though, thanks to Malik Pedroso's 39th of the year and a Ryan Lanigan strike.

After a scoreless third, Andrew Dennison opened the fourth with an unassisted goal, but McCaffer's third tied the game up at 4-4. Aldridge scored with 4:41 left to retake the lead, and LVC's defense had to withstand five Lycoming chances in the final minute to earn the win.

Mike Moll made nine saves, and counterpart Alex Wylly stopped 10 for Lyco. Lanigan led LVC's defense with three caused turnovers and five ground balls; Scott Sutton had a good day on face-offs, winning nine of 12.
