ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley improved to 15-1 in Commonwealth Conference play with 4-0 and 5-1 wins over Arcadia on Senior Day.
Senior
Alexa Maddy had a day to remember, clearing the bases with a three-run double in game one to go 3-for-6 for the day. She and classmate Steff Secola, who scored a run in the opener and reached twice in game two, were honored before the game for their contributions to the LVC softball program.
Sam Derr set a new single-season record for pitching wins, firing her 18th victory with a shutout in game one, and
Haley Neff ran her unbeaten record to 8-0 with the win in the nightcap.
In game one, LVC (27-4-1, 15-1 CC) did all of its damage in the fourth. Secola led off with a single and scored off
Jasmine Dutton's hit later in the inning; then, with the bases loaded, Maddy drilled a double to the left-center gap to score three, putting LVC up 4-0.
That was all the lead Derr needed as she worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth and forced Arcadia to strand four runners in scoring position during the game.
LVC struck quickly in game two, with the top of the order scoring three runs.
Tessa Deardorff and Derr singled their way on for
Allie Hartman, who doubled in both and later scored on an error that let Secola on. In the fourth,
Tessa Deardorff drove in her sister
Katie Deardorff with a double, and Hartman again roped a double down the left-field line to bring
Katie Deardorff across in the sixth.
Arcadia's lone run came in the fourth when Jessica Wood scored on Ashley John's sacrifice fly. Neff struck out three and scattered six hits in the win. LVC's defense continued to sparkle behind both Derr and Neff, running their errorless streak to 41 innings.
The Dutchmen will visit Susquehanna Wednesday.
