UNION, N.J. -
Allie Hartman recorded her 100th career hit as Lebanon Valley trounced Kean 10-1 in the opener, but pitching ruled the nightcap in a scoreless tie game called due to darkness.
The Dutchmen (21-4-1) drilled 14 hits in game one, led by a 3-for-4 game from Hartman and
Mary Readinger's 3-for-3 effort. Hartman became the third Dutchman this season and 12th in program history to record her 100th career hit, going 3-for-4 in the game.
Sam Derr flirted with a no-hitter, broken up in the fifth as she scattered three hits over six innings.
Haley Neff was just as good in game two, allowing just two Kean hits and striking out five in a duel with Courtney Yard.
In the opener, Dutchmen batted around in the first, taking advantage of three Cougar errors to score four runs. Derr and
Tessa Deardorff both scored off errors, and
Mary Readinger's RBI double and
Katie Deardorff's bunt single brought two more across.
Steff Secola jacked a three-run homer to center in the second, and
Kelli Valle's double later in the inning plated Readinger to make it 8-0. Kean broke up Derr's no-hit bid and scored a run to extend the game in the fifth, but an RBI single by
Alexa Maddy and a double steal brought
Katie Deardorff home to go up 10-1 and finish the game in six innings.
The nightcap saw just five combined hits over five innings; both teams left runners on third in the first, but never had another serious scoring chance as Neff and Yard kept the game scoreless. Overcast conditions and fading light led to the game being called due to darkness after five innings; it is only the second tie game in program history and first since 1997, when LVC and King's played to a 7-7 draw.
LVC will visit Lycoming Saturday in a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader.
