Softball Wins Two at Stevenson, Pushes Streak To 11

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Softball
Game 1: Lebanon Valley 1, Stevenson 0
Game 2: Lebanon Valley 1, Stevenson 0

BALTIMORE, Md. - A single run in each game was all Lebanon Valley needed as it took two from Stevenson by identical 1-0 scores on Thursday.

The Dutchmen (13-3, 4-0 CC) pushed their win streak to 11 straight behind a pair of pitching gems by Sam Derr, who had a perfect game busted up in the sixth inning of game 1 on the way to a one-hitter.

Jorey Aumiller provided the winning hit in the opener, singling to center in the fourth to plate Allie Hartman, and Derr scored the only run of the nightcap after Steff Secola reached on an error.

LVC threatened several times in game 1, leading runners in scoring position three times, but the one run was all that mattered as Derr was perfect into the sixth before Stephanie Shupe's pinch-hit triple gave the Mustangs (10-7) their only hit of the game. Derr wound up with eight strikeouts as she faced one over the minimum, while Briana Pichalski took the loss with three K's.

The Dutchmen put their run on the board early in game two thanks to several Mustang miscues. Derr reached on an error before stealing second, then went to third on a wild pitch. That set up Secola to reach on an error by the third baseman Kristen Mueller, putting Derr across with two outs.

Derr continued her strong day in the circle, surrendering just two hits through the fifth before Stevenson put its first runner in scoring position in the sixth; after a double steal put runners on second and third, Derr struck out two straight batters to get out of the jam. She had to do it again in the seventh after Mueller tripled with one out, striking out Kristen Fassler and inducing a Brianna Dierter pop-up to end the game.

LVC will visit Widener on Monday in a make-up of their CC doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
