GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Lebanon Valley was able to sweep Gettysburg on the road Sunday in a pair of makeup games originally scheduled for Thursday. The Dutchmen won 3-1 in game one and 6-3 in game two.
Sam Derr pitched marvelously in game one, allowing just one unearned run on three hits and a walk. She matched a season-high with six strikeouts, while improving to 6-2 on the year.
Derr was one of five Dutchmen to collect hits in the win. The others included
Katie Deardorff,
Tessa Deardorff,
Allie Hartman, and
Mary Readinger, who scored two of the team's runs.
Readinger scored her first run in the second when
Tessa Deardorff reached on an error. In the sixth, with a 1-1 tie on the board, both Deardorff sisters hit RBI singles for the 3-1 final.
After three scoreless innings in game two, things became interesting. LVC scored twice in the top of the fourth on RBI singles by Hartman and starting pitcher
Haley Neff. Gettysburg quickly bounced back with a run in the bottom half of the fourth and two more in the next inning to take a 3-2 lead.
LVC scored three more in the sixth on a single by Neff, a fielder's choice by Readinger, and a single by
Alexa Maddy. Hartman knocked in Derr in the seventh for the team's final run.
Derr, Hartman, and Neff each had multiple hits in game two. Derr hit 2-for-4 with two runs as the team's center fielder. Hartman finished a perfect 3-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Neff helped her own cause by hitting 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
In the circle, Neff allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk. She struck out three and improved to 3-0.
