Lebanon Valley College 2, Arcadia University 1 (OT)
ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior
Amanda Douglass chipped the ball up over the goalie on a breakaway and was surrounded by her teammates as the ball rolled in on a 2-1 victory for Lebanon Valley women's soccer on Saturday afternoon at Herbert Field.
Just 40 seconds into the overtime session, senior
Allison Korns sent a long pass over the Arcadia back line and right to the foot of Douglass. Arcadia's goalkeeper came out of her crease to pressure, but the junior worked it around her and into the net for the all-important winner in the final regular season game for the Valley.
On a Senior Day that honored seniors
Katie Deardorff,
Jess Kleeschulte,
Sarah Wannlund,
Taylor Saraiva,
Lindi Crist,
Becca Sykes,
Sarah Dowhower,
Dani Douglass,
Heather Tran, and Korns, LVC looked like veterans coming away with the victory to clinch a spot in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament.
Arcadia opened the scoring in the 20th minute as a turnover in the backline allowed the Knights' Fatima Elmedkhar a lane to goal, finishing in the low left side for the early 1-0 lead. That scoreline would stand into the halftime break as LVC had to find the back of the net in the second half to have any shot at extending its season.
Fittingly, an upperclassmen gave them that spark as Kleeschulte cleaned up a rebound in the 56th minute to tie the game at one apiece, setting up the overtime thriller from Douglass to win it.
After being outshot 5-0 in the opening half, the Dutchmen came out in the second and held a 15-7 shot advantage and scoring on the only shot for both teams in overtime. Additionally, the Valley held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Crist led the LVC offense with five shots, including one off the post, while Kleeschulte added three shots and Tran and Douglass posted two apiece.
The fourth-seeded Valley will look for a repeat as a rematch with fifth-seeded Arcadia is set for Tuesday afternoon at Herbert Field in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament First Round. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
