Harris' Goal Sends LVC To The Postseason In Do-Or-Die Win

Box Score Field Hockey
Lebanon Valley 1, Elizabethtown 0

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Needing a win to extend its season, Lebanon Valley made an early goal by Megan Harris stand up in a 1-0 win over first-place Elizabethtown on Tuesday night.

The Dutchmen (9-9, 5-3 CC) dealt the Blue Jays (12-5, 7-1 CC) their first Commonwealth Conference loss of the season in dramatic fashion. Knowing they had to win the game to make the CC Tournament because of Alvernia's 3-2 overtime win against Widener earlier in the day, the Dutchmen sat on Harris' strike with a superb defensive effort, including 12 saves by Chloe Baro.

LVC, which has completed its regular season, will enter the postseason as the fourth seed in the five-team field, and will host Stevenson Monday in a quarterfinal at a time to be announced this weekend. Had LVC lost, it would've been out of the tournament, with Alvernia qualifying in its place.

After fending off some early E-town chances, Harris scored on LVC's first shot of the game, finishing a solo run with a hard shot to the goalkeeper's right at 8:18.

Elizabethtown, playing in its final CC regular-season game before departing for the Landmark Conference next year, had the better chances after that, outshooting LVC 8-5 in the first half including a three-shot sequence a half hour in that was turned aside by Baro. Lebanon Valley's best chance to make it 2-0 came in the 26th minute when Rachel Youngs blasted a rocket from the circle to force a Marlena Johnson pad save.

LVC limited the Jays to only four second-half shots as they sat back on defense, withsthanding five penalty corners and coming up with a number of big clearances while holding all possession in midfield.

Baro picked up her fifth shutout of the season in the win. Johnson made three saves in the loss. E-town led 12-6 on shots and 10-2 on corners.
