Palmerio One-Hits Lycoming in Senior Day Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Softball
Lebanon Valley 5, Lycoming 0
Lebanon Valley 8, Lycoming 1

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley closed out the regular season on a number of high notes Saturday in a sweep against Lycoming. Kristen Palmerio pitched for a pair of wins, including a one-hit performance in game one, while Allie Hartman homered her way into a few school records.

With the wins, the Dutchmen clinched the two-seed and will open the Commonwealth Conference playoffs Friday at Messiah.

Palmerio (17-8) was masterful through game one, allowing just four baserunners prior to a single in the sixth. Her only hit allowed was an infield single.

Hartman blasted a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth in game two - the first of three total Dutchman homeruns hit that inning. The shot was the 12th of her career, tying her with Meghan Donoghue for the highest total in school history. She also took sole possession of the single-season homerun record with her eighth of the year and tied the single-season RBI record with her 34th.

The entire day - the team's annual Senior Day - was dedicated to LVC's four graduating seniors: Chelsea Detwiler, Steph Hulme, Chelsea Kehr, and Palmerio.

Game One

Palmerio was able to pitch with confidence in game one, as her team gave her a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The first two runs came via a bases-clearing, two-run double to right-center by Hulme. Steffani Secola followed up with a single to left, and Hulme legged out two bases for the team's third run.

The final two Dutchmen runs came in the third inning. Hartman hit a one-out double to left and scored on a double down the left field line by Hulme. Secola connected for her second RBI on a single through the left side that again plated Hulme from second.

Palmerio pitched all seven innings, allowing one hit and three walks. She allowed two baserunners in the sixth - the first on a hit-by-pitch and the second on the single to short - but got out of the inning on back-to-back strikeouts. It was just the second time in the game that a runner reached second. She struck out seven total batters.

The Dutchmen finished with nine total hits, including two hits from Tessa Deardorff, Hartman, Hulme, and Secola. Hulme was a standout on Senior Day, scoring two runs and driving in three more.

Game Two

The Dutchmen again were able to take an early lead in game two. After allowing a run in the top of the first, Palmerio doubled in Tessa Deardorff from second to tie the game up. Hulme added an RBI single two batters later, scoring Palmerio to give the team a lead that would prove durable.

Hartman's two-out, third inning homerun was the first of three longballs by the Dutchmen in the inning. Hulme followed up with a shot to dead center, and Alexa Maddy sent a ball out to left with a pair of runners on to put LVC up 7-1.

Jorey Aumiller added a run in the fifth on a single to center. Hulme, who had reached on an error, advanced two bases for the run.

Palmerio, Hartman, and Hulme posted two hits each. Hulme knocked in two more RBIs and scored two more runs herself.

Palmerio pitched another seven innings, allowing just six hits without a run. She added three more strikeouts.
