Elizabethtown 22, Lebanon Valley 15

ANNVILLE, Pa. - A second-half comeback was not in the cards as Elizabethtown beat Lebanon Valley in a shootout, 22-15, in LVC's regular-season finale on Tuesday.

The Dutchmen (9-6, 4-2 CC) will go into the Commonwealth Conference playoffs as the #3 seed, and will visit the Blue Jays (10-5, 4-1 CC) for the semifinals on May 2. The game ended up as the final contest to be played on Arnold Field's grass surface; artificial turf will be installed at the stadium this summer, which has been natural grass since it was built in 1969.

LVC will be making its second postseason appearance in just three years of existence since the program was re-established in 2010.

Mel Modrick scored a career-high five goals, Taylor Kruter notched a hat trick, and Hana Krechel and Bailey Benz each had two goals and three assists. Four players scored three for Elizabethtown, led by Samantha Redles and Leigh Flounlacker's three goals and two assists apiece.

Elizabethtown controlled the game throughout with strong midfield play, led by a 24-15 draw control advantage (including 11 from Katie Scheurich) and by holding LVC to a 12-for-21 clip on clears. The Blue Jays ended the first half on a 6-0 run to break open a 6-5 game, doing all of that scoring in the final 4:58.

LVC attempted a second-half comeback, scoring four in a 2:36 span keyed by three Benz assists and a pair of Kruter goals to force a timeout by the visitors. Elizabethtown shut the door of the talk, however, with goals by Scheurich and Madalyn Schnader to re-establish an eight-goal lead.

Corinne Palombo started and made 10 saves as E-town outshot LVC 40-23, and Erica Ameigh made two saves in second-half relief. Elizabethtown's Rachael Waldman earned the win with four saves; she combined with Shelby Bruno who had two stops.
