ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley kept their playoff push going, blowing out Alvernia 15-4 with a comprehensive Commonwealth Conference win on Saturday.
An eight-goal second quarter was what the Dutchmen (9-2, 3-1 CC) needed to turn a 2-1 lead over the Crusaders (5-7, 0-2 CC) into a rout. The Dutchmen control their own destiny for a home playoff game with Albright and Widener left in the next week; LVC heads to the 12-1 Lions on Wednesday with a chance to clinch the first postseason berth in modern program history.
Malik Pedroso stayed hot, extending his multi-point game streak to eight with two goals and three assists.
Alex Beard,
Ian Schmid, and
Ryan Leonard had two goals and an assist apiece. LVC dominated the game offensively with a 50-20 shots advantage, including 31-5 in the first half and 21-3 in the decisive 8-0 second quarter.
Scott Sutton had another terrific day on face-offs, going 19-for-23. LVC owned the midfield by going a perfect 14-for-14 on clears, holding Alvernia to just 13-for-29.
Matt Aldridge and Pedroso scored around Alvernia's Daniel Frantz in the first quarter, and Leonard notched his first just eight seconds into the second to set the tone for a big second quarter. Schmid and Beard scored 45 seconds apart to go up 5-1, and
Scott Travers and
Matt Roupe added goals along with Schmid, Pedroso, and Leonard to go up 10-1 at the half.
Longpole
Ryan Lanigan started the second half with a goal inside 30 seconds, and Beard extended the lead to 12-1 before Alvernia stopped the run with goals by Mallory Pierre and Paul Tarnacki late in the quarter.
Matt Lubawski opened the fourth quarter and
James Sylvester had his first career goal to end the game.
LVC combined four goalkeepers for eight saves, with
Mike Moll earning the win with a goal allowed in the first half. Kevin Shupp had 22 saves in the losing effort.
