Game 1 - Lebanon Valley 6, Wilkes 3
EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley grabbed a pair of wins in nonconference games with Wilkes Thursday afternoon. The Dutchmen (13-8) beats the Colonels (4-8) by scores of 6-3 and 11-1.
LVC came out swinging and put three runs on the board in the first inning. Tessa and
Katie Deardorff opened the game on back-to-back singles and a successful double steal that set
Steph Hulme up with two runners. She hit a sac fly to left to score
Tessa Deardorff and advance Katie to third.
Allie Hartman came to the plate and drove a homerun to center to bring
Katie Deardorff home and give the Dutchmen a 3-0 lead. The blast was her fifth of the season.
The Dutchmen gained ground in the top of the third with another pair of runs.
Angela Harris came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. She laced a two-run single to center to give the team a 5-0 edge. Hartman and Hulme both scored after reaching on walks.
Starting pitcher
Jasmine Dutton (4-1) finally allowed a run in the bottom of the third when Wilkes catcher Jordan Borger doubled in a run to bring the game to 5-1.
Tessa Deardorff singled in the fourth and eventually came around to score on an error at the plate.
Wilkes shot back for a pair of runs in the fifth, but the comeback never fully took off.
Tessa Deardorff led the Dutchmen in hitting, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Dutton pitched the entire way to earn the win, allowing just two earned runs on nine hits and a walk. She struck out one. Laykin Hughes (3-3) allowed six runs - five earned - on eight hits and five walks. She fanned six.
Game 2 - Lebanon Valley 11, Wilkes 1 (5 inn.)
The Dutchmen showed their teeth in an 11-1 game that ended in the team's second mercy rule victory of the season.
Tessa Deardorff parlayed her perfect hitting in game one into a perfect day with a 4-for-4 performance in game two, and Hartman belted her second homerun of the day in the win.
The Dutchmen patched together five hits for four runs in the first. Tessa and
Katie Deardorff again led off with back-to-back singles. Hulme singled in Tessa, and
Katie Deardorff crossed the plate when Wilkes starter Alysha Bixler was called for an illegal pitch.
Both
Steffani Secola and
Jorey Aumiller hit RBI doubles before the inning was out to give LVC a 4-0 lead.
Borger hit an RBI single in the bottom of the inning to give the Colonels their only run of the game.
Tessa Deardorff opened the second with a one-out double down the left field line. She advanced on a single by
Katie Deardorff and stole home in another double steal.
Hulme advanced
Katie Deardorff to third on a single and stole second, but the small ball proved unnecessary when Hartman stepped to the plate and blasted her sixth homer of the season - this time to left-center - to put the Dutchmen up 8-1.
LVC put up three more runs in the top of the fifth to end the game.
Chelsea Detwiler singled and scored on an error.
Mary Readinger and Hulme each hit RBI doubles, as the team collected four hits, a walk, and an error in the inning.
Emily Robenolt (2-1) held the Colonels to one run on seven hits and a walk for the win. Bixler (0-4) allowed 15 hits in earning the loss for Wilkes.
The Dutchmen will play two at Arcadia Saturday at 1 p.m.
