ANNVILLE, Pa. - Led by
Malik Pedroso's five goals and an outstanding face-off game by
Scott Sutton, Lebanon Valley's offense erupted for a school-record 17 goals in a 17-8 win over Immaculata on Saturday.
The Dutchmen (3-1) set a new modern-era record for goals in a game as they ripped off eight second-quarter goals to blow the game open and lead 12-2 at halftime.
Pedroso's five goals tied the program single-game record set by teammate
Scott Sutton in LVC's modern-era opener against Mount Saint Mary in 2010. He also had an assist for a six-point game; eight Dutchmen had multi-point games, including
Ian Schmid's hat trick, two goals by
Jordan Mayr and
Matt Roupe, and a goal and two helpers from
Alex Beard and
Matt Lubawski.
CJ Adams doled out two assists, and
Matt Aldridge added a goal and assist.
Sutton was outstanding at the X, going 17-for-27 overall on face-offs and 9-for-10 in the second quarter as LVC made its run.
Mike Moll (3-1) earned the win with four first-half saves, while
Kevin Krasley stopped seven in back-up duty and
Ethan Hilberg had a save in the final minute. Jon Diodati made 10 saves in the loss, and Max Bonhage had nine stops in relief.
The Dutchmen took a 4-0 lead by the midpoint of the first quarter on goals by Mayr, Pedroso, and a pair by Roupe, but it was a second-quarter explosion that took full control of the game. Pedroso scored to start the quarter and that set off a four-goal spurt over the next 2:03 as he added a man-up tally and Schmid and Mayr got in on the action. Beard and
Scott Travers finished the 6-0 run before Joey Shallow scored for the Macs; Pedroso's fourth and Lubawski's first career goal made it 12-2 at the half.
Schmid scored back-to-back to finish his hat trick in the third quarter, and Aldridge netted a goal around a pair of IU strikes.
Sean Foley and Pedroso finished it off in the fourth, and IU ended the game with four unanswered as LVC cleared out its bench.
LVC led 47-34 on shots (30-6 in the first half) and completed 23 of 25 clears, going a perfect 18-for-18 through three quarters. Three LVC goals came on extra-man chances.
The Dutchmen visit Shenandoah on Wednesday.
