Comeback Lifts W. Basketball Over Widener, 69-62

Box Score Women's Basketball
#7 Lebanon Valley 69, Widener 62

ANNVILLE, Pa. - #7 Lebanon Valley ended the game on a 17-4 run to erase Widener's lead and win, 69-62, in a dramatic comeback effort on Saturday.

The Dutchmen (5-1, 2-1 CC) trailed for most of the game as the Pride (4-1, 1-1 CC) rode a tough defense to force 22 LVC turnovers. LVC trailed 58-52 with 7:46 left before a 7-0 run capped by Lauren Ruhl's long jumper gave them the lead with 3:52 to go.

Widener's three-point shooting made the difference in the first half as they shot 7-for-13, led by Jennifer Egee's four, but they went ice cold in the second half, hitting just two of 15 attempts as LVC caught up.

The Dutchmen were paced by Tierney Hiltz, who poured in 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting to go with nine rebounds, and Renee Fritz's 13-point, 9-rebound effort. Kiely Chaklos filled the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Egee had 20 to lead the Pride.

Widener's red-hot first half secured them an early lead that grew to as much as 12 late in the half as Egee hit four of her six three-pointers. The Pride defense generated nine first-half steals.

LVC drew close to open the second, cutting it to 46-45 on Chaklos' layup at 16:26, but a 7-0 Pride run keyed by Lil Carney's jumper re-established a comfortable lead, and Egee's sixth trey of the game at 7:46 made it 58-52.

That would turn out to be Widener's final field goal for more than five minutes as free throws by Fritz and Taylor Umbrell started a 7-0 spurt that ended with Ruhl's long two putting LVC up 59-58. After Carney and Fritz traded points, Joanna Persiano's layup with 2:41 put the Pride on top for the final time at 62-61. Hiltz made a pair of free throws at the other end, and Caitlin Bach converted a huge three-point play with 1:31 left to put LVC up 66-62. Widener couldn't make a shot from there as Chaklos sealed the game with two free throws.

LVC will visit Arcadia on Wednesday.
