Delaware Valley 31, Lebanon Valley 10
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Six turnovers doomed Lebanon Valley as Delaware Valley scored 21 unanswered points to end the game and win, 31-10, at Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen (5-3, 4-3 MAC) lost two fumbles and threw four interceptions as the Aggies (6-2, 6-1 MAC) ran for 276 yards. The game was sloppy both ways, with Del Val coughing up three fumbles as well.
"Give them a lot of credit, they're a good football team. But you have six turnovers, you're not going to beat anybody," said Head Coach
Jim Monos. "We had a chance to win that football game but we made some poor choices. It's disappointing."
Del Val's Alquann Jones ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns, including a back-breaker 56-yard burst up the seam in the third quarter. Kyle Schuberth went for 89 yards and a score, and quarterback Aaron Wilmer added 76 yards and a touchdown. LVC combined for 108 yards on the ground led by
Conrad Heisey's career-high 14 touches for 48 yards, and
Pete Panichi's 38 yards.
Leo Kyte had an early touchdown on a QB sneak. Kyte threw for 180 yards, but his four interceptions gave Del Val momentum as Wilmer had a quiet 136 yards on 10-of-14 passing.
Bryan Kasper led the defense with 11 tackles;
DJ Poligone forced two fumbles, and
Kevin Smith and
Drew Murphy each had sacks. Terrence Osborne led DVC with 10 tackles, and John Robinson, Shaquille Lee, Chad Wisniewski, and Chris Vega all had picks.
"They had a very aggressive style and we weren't able to take advantage of some the chances we had," Monos said. "Right now we want to beat King's. We have to take a step back and look at where we are."
LVC led earn as Kyte's sneak took advantage of Aaron Boyd's fumbled punt return, but Del Val leveled it up on Wilmer's end-around to open the second quarter. Brandon Snyder's 23-yard field goal gave the Aggies a 10-7 edge at the half.
The third quarter had a bizarre opening as the teams traded three turnovers in a 1:22 span. Poligone hit Wilmer on the half's opening play, jarring the ball loose for
Ryan Melley, but Kyte was picked by Robinson three plays later. On Del Val's first play after that, Schuberth was again hit by Poligone, knocking the ball out for
Zach Halpin's recovery.
Sean Fakete cashed in on that opportunity, hitting from 32 yards out in what would ultimately be LVC's final points.
Del Val scored on the ensuing drive thanks to Jones' 56-yard burst, and Wisniewski's interception to start the fourth quarter led to a four-yard Schuberth score. Lee's interception later in the quarter led to Jones' second touchdown to cap the 31-10 victory for the Aggies.
LVC will travel to King's next Saturday.
