DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - Mistakes allowed #25 Delaware Valley to scored 27 unanswered points as the Aggies beat Lebanon Valley, 34-10, in the Middle Atlantic Conference opener on Saturday.
The Dutchmen (2-1, 0-1 MAC) gave the ball away five times and the Aggies' (3-0, 1-0 MAC) offense generated 21 points in the second quarter, sparked by a pair of Aaron Wilmer touchdowns to Rodney Blango.
LVC spread its ground attack out, led by
Ben Guiles' 67 yards and and a touchdown as he became the third player in LVC history to cross 3,000 career rushing yards.
Colt Zarilla was 12-for-20 for 164 yards and two interceptions.
Wilmer ended up going 14-for-20 for 250 yards and two scores, hitting Blango nine times for 169 yards, while DVC running back Kyle Schuberth ran for 139 yards and a touchdown.
The Dutchmen largely kept the ball on the ground, rushing 39 times for 156 yards, and Del Val used the same strategy, racking up 193 yards rushing and three touchdowns. LVC fumbled four times, losing two to end the first two drives of the second quarter.
After Delaware Valley's Tom Devlin finished off the opening drive with a one-yard touchdown,
Pete Panichi returned the ensuring kickoff 86 yards to the DVC one-yard line, setting up Guiles' touchdown one play later to tie it at 7-7.
LVC drove deep into Aggie territory on their next drive but had to settle for a 20-yard
Sean Fakete field goal for what would end up being their final points of the game.
Blango's first touchdown catch opened the second quarter, and that sparked a three-touchdown run that included Tyler Neal's one-yard finisher and a 10-yard Blango grab from Wilmer later in the quarter.
Schuberth finished the game with a nine-yard touchdown in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.
LVC will return home to face Stevenson Sept. 24 in the first-ever meeting of the programs.
