Lycoming 9, Lebanon Valley 8
Box Score
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - A second-half rally that included two
CJ Adams goals fell just short as Lebanon Valley stormed back from a five-goal deficit before falling 9-8 at Lycoming on Wednesday.
The Dutchmen (4-6, 2-3 MAC), playing a team it lost to 11-2 last year, showed they belonged as they kept it even with the Warriors (4-5, 3-1 MAC) and came back from a 4-0 first-quarter deficit and 6-1 down in the second quarter.
Freshman
Malik Pedroso recorded his fourth hat trick of the season and Adams had two second-half goals, but Lycoming's Stephen Romano scored four, including what held up as the gamewinner to start the fourth quarter. LVC goalie
Mike Moll took over for the second half and was rock-solid, allowing just two goals and making six saves as the Dutchmen rallied back to make it a one-goal game.
LVC had a late extra-man chance to tie the game after the Warriors were called for offsides with 54 seconds remaining, but Adams took the only shot of the shift and it was saved to end the threat.
To even be in that situation was a testament to LVC's resiliency after the Dutchmen found themselves down 6-1 to start the game before reeling off a 4-1 spurt to end the first half. That run included a pair by Pedroso and goals from
Scott Travers and
Ian Schmid as LVC flipped a 6-1 hole into a 7-5 halftime score.
Lycoming scored in the opening minute of the second half to end the bleeding with Brett Farrell finding the net, but Pedroso and Adams hit 38 seconds apart in the middle of the quarter to pull it to 8-7.
Romano scored the eventual gamewinner to open the fourth, and despite eight LVC shots in the quarter, only Adams' late shot with 3:01 remaining found its way in.
The game was even on the stat sheet, with Lycoming leading 25-24 on shots and 12-9 on face-offs. Neither team capitalized on an extra-man chance, with LVC going 0-for-5 and Lyco 0-for-2.
LVC will visit FDU-Florham on Saturday.
