ANNVILLE, Pa. – #23 Lebanon Valley swept a doubleheader from Wilkes Tuesday afternoon to improve to 25-6 on the season. The Dutchmen posted an 8-0 shutout in the first game and a 9-3 win in the nightcap.
GAME ONE
Kristen Palmerio,
Meghan Donoghue, and
Steph Hulme paced the scoring with two RBI each.
The Dutchmen opened with two runs scoring in the first for the early lead.
Katie Deardorff and Palmerio rounded the bases on a sacrifice fly by Donoghue and a Wilkes throwing error.
Recording four more runs in the second, Lebanon Valley held a 6-0 advantage. A single from Hulme scored one run, while Palmerio notched a two-RBI single. Donoghue finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly.
Hulme posted LVC's only RBI in the third inning, sending
Steffani Secola home on a single.
Lebanon Valley secured the five inning win after Allison Hartman reached base with a double. Pinch runner
Chelsea Artz crossed home plate on a single by
Marisa Krause for the win.
Laura Snyder posted her 10th win of the season after holding the Colonels to just one hit and striking out eight.
GAME TWO
Hartman led LVC's offense, going 2-for-4 at the plate with one run and a team-high three RBI. Palmerio and
Val Malizzia both tallied two hits in the win.
Opening the game with a walk, Palmerio went on to score off a throwing error for an early 1-0 lead. Wilkes tied the game in the third inning as Alysha Bixler hit a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to left.
Both teams posted two runs in the fifth inning. The Colonels notched three doubles in the inning for two runs, while the Dutchmen had both runs score off errors.
Holding Wilkes scoreless for the remainder, Lebanon Valley finished the scoring with six runs in the sixth inning.
Linley Eberhart started the inning with her second career home run and Artz rounded the bases on a single by
Mary Readinger. The final runs came off Hartman's fourth home run of the season.
Malizzia pitched the complete game for LVC, allowing three runs on seven hits and registering six strikeouts for her 10th win this season.
Lebanon Valley finishes its non-conference schedule Wednesday with a doubleheader at Susquehanna. The first game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
