ANNVILLE, Pa. - Senior
Meghan Donoghue became LVC's all-time leader in home runs as the Dutchmen took two from Delaware Valley, winning both games 7-1 in non-conference play on Tuesday.
The Dutchmen (12-5) rallied back from first-inning deficits in both games, shutting down the Aggies (7-7) and bringing out the bats for 24 combined hits in the doubleheader.
Kristen Palmerio (4-0) twirled a three-hitter in the opener, while
Val Malizzia (6-1) scattered four and struck out eight to take the second while helping herself by going 3-for-3 with a run batted in. Donoghue and Steff Secola both put together three-RBI games, as well.
GAME ONE
After allowing Del Val's Kasey Martini to score on two wild pitches in the first, LVC got it back when
Alexa Maddy doubled in Allison Hartman in the second.
The Dutchmen broke the game open with a five-run fifth, starting with Maddy's RBI double to plate
Marisa Krause followed by two-run knocks by Palmerio and Secola. Secola finished her big game by driving in
Katie Deardorff on a fielder's choice in the sixth.
Palmerio was outstanding in the circle after a tough first, facing just two over the minimum after that thanks to a pair of LVC double plays.
GAME TWO
The nightcap also started off with Del Val getting on the board early, but this time it was a pair of hits that did the damage as Jackie Wear came across on Erin Fox's single.
LVC tied it up in the bottom of the first as Donoghue drove in Palmerio, and her second hit brought in
Chelsea Artz in the third inning before
Linley Eberhart's single scored Donoghue.
But Donoghue saved the best for the fifth, leading off the inning with her 10th career home run to become LVC's all-time leader, breaking a tie with
Allie Davies '10 and teammate
Katie Freeman. Her homer sparked a three-run inning that included RBI singles by
Mary Readinger and Malizzia.
Chelsea Artz scored on an error in the sixth to finish off the 7-1 win.
