Ryan Leonard scored four goals with an assist to lead Lebanon Valley to its first Middle Atlantic Conference win in modern program history, routing Alvernia 10-3 on Wednesday.
The Dutchmen (3-3, 1-0 MAC) dominated from start to finish, holding the Crusaders (2-3, 0-1 MAC) scoreless until the fourth quarter as they built a 9-0 lead on the way to the win.
Leonard scored all four of his goals in that span, while
Malik Pedroso added a pair of scores. Four other Dutchmen -
CJ Adams,
Matt Roupe,
Ian Schmid, and
Ty Fosnacht - also scored, and nine in all recorded a point.
LVC stormed out to a 5-0 halftime lead, opening with a lone first-quarter goal by Pedroso before Leonard started a four-goal second quarter. Roupe scored before Leonard's second, and Schmid tallied to end the half.
In the third, Leonard scored the only goal off
Alex Beard's assist, then tacked his fourth on with a man-up feed from
Jordan Mayr to start the fourth. Adams and Pedroso piled on insurance goals before Alvernia's Rick Reid got the hosts in the board with 4:12 left in the game, starting a quick three-goal spurt. Fosnacht put the exclamation mark on the the game with an unassisted goal with 27 seconds left.
Bryan Lockward was perfect in the win, making four saves and not allowing a goal in three quarters of work.
Connor Effinger made one stop in a quarter of relief. Alvernia's Kevin Shupp made 11 saves in the losing effort.
Scott Sutton went 12-for-17 on face-offs, and LVC held a 30-17 advantage on shots.
Lebanon Valley will host Eastern on Saturday at 1 p.m.
