ANNVILLE, Pa.
- Lebanon Valley opened its 2011 home schedule with a sweep of DeSales University on Sunday, getting solid pitching outings from Val Malizzia and Kristen Palmerio while taking advantage of DeSales' mistakes to win both ends of the doubleheader.

The Dutchmen (9-4) scored four runs off errors and wild pitches by the Bulldogs (4-4) as the visitors committed four errors across the two games.

Katie Freeman and Marisa Krause both drove in runs in the opener as Katie Deardorff scored two runs, while Allison Hartman and Mary Readinger provided the scoring punch in the second as Steph Hulme came across twice.

GAME ONE

LVC struck quickly in the first as Katie Morrissey wild pitch scored Deardorff and Krause drove in Meghan Donoghue to go up 2-0. Chelsea Kehr scored in the third as Krause reached on a dropped fly ball, and Deardorff came across again in the fifth on Freeman's groundout.

DeSales Laura Pironi got the Bulldogs on the board in the sixth, drilling a towering two-run homer to left, but Malizzia retired the next five batters to cap off the win.

Malizzia (4-1) struck out seven and walked one to pick up the victory; Morrissey allowed three earned in five innings with three K's, and Brittany Wilson pitched a clean inning of relief. The win was Malzzia's 45th career victory, tying the all-time record held by Jenn Roberts '07.

GAME TWO

Palmerio paced the Dutchmen in the nightcap, scattering five hits and fanning six to improve to 3-0 this season. The junior allowed just two runners to reach scoring position, and got out of a jam in the fourth as she struck out Shelly McCarthy looking with a runner on third.

Meanwhile, LVC's offense took advantage of three Bulldog errors, getting on the board in the third as Hulme scored on an error off Readinger's sacrifice bunt, and adding another in the fourth when Chelsea Artz scored on Hartman's sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Hulme led off with a double, and Readinger brought her home with a right-side single to go up 3-0.

Jen Lococo (1-2) took the loss, allowing seven hits and one earned run for DeSales.

LVC will visit Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon.
