HUNTINGTON, Pa. – Strong pitching and big bats led Lebanon Valley softball to a doubleheader sweep of Juniata Thursday afternoon. The Dutchmen posted a shut out in the first game with a 6-0 win, while taking the nightcap 10-3.

In the first game, Laura Snyder pitched all seven innings. She allowed just three hits and struck out 10 batters. Chelsea Kehr and Alexa Maddy paced the offense with two RBI each.

Lebanon Valley scored its first run in the second inning when Linley Eberhart drew a walk and was sent home on a single by Maddy. The game broke open in the fourth inning with four runs scoring for a 5-0 lead. Allison Hartman, Mary Readinger, and Chelsea Detwiler all reached base on a walk. A sacrifice fly by Maddy scored one run and a triple to center field from Kehr scored Readinger and Detwiler. Chelsea Artz finished the inning, reaching base on a fielder's choice that sent Kehr home.

The Dutchmen added a run in the fifth with a ground out by Readinger scoring Katie Freeman.

Kristen Palmerio picked up her second win of the season in game two. Pitching the complete game, she gave up three runs on six hits and notched a career-high eight strikeouts.

Notching three homers in the game, Freeman led LVC with three RBI and Steffani Secola added two RBI.

LVC started things early in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the first inning. A double to center field by Freeman sent Palmerio and Kehr across home plate. A throwing error and wild pitch by Juniata scored two more runs.

Juniata responded in the bottom of the inning with two runs scoring to cut LVC's lead to 4-2.

The Dutchmen came back to score four more runs in the second, extending their lead to six runs. Snyder started things off with a double and was sent home off a triple to center field by Katie Deardorff. A two-out single from Palmerio scored Deardorff and Secola hit a two-run home run.

Marisa Krause tallied her first home run of the season and second of her career in the third inning, a solo shot with two outs. Freeman closed out the scoring in the fifth inning with a solo homer, the ninth of her career, tying the all-time home run record held by Meghan Donoghue '11 and Allie Davies '10.

The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 10-3 game.

Lebanon Valley opens Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday, traveling to Widener for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
