ANNVILLE, Pa. - The #9 Lebanon Valley women's basketball team looked imposing against Marywood Tuesday night in a 60-45 win at the LVC Gymnasium.
The Dutchmen (1-0) began the game on a 13-2 run, including five easy points from junior guard
Tierney Hiltz, who became the first LVC player to hit a shot from beyond the arc this season.
LVC led the Pacers (0-1) by as many as 12 points three times in the first half and never surrendered the lead. The most encouraging signs were the 16 points that came from the paint--10 of which came on fast breaks.
The Dutchmen shot 58.3 percent in the half, led by a 4-for-6 start by Hiltz and a perfect 3-for-3 start from freshman guard
Kiely Chaklos.
They opened with a 6-0 run after halftime that started on four straight free throws by senior guard
Caitlin Murphy and Hiltz.
The Dutchmen took their largest lead of the game at 49-29. Murphy and junior forward
Liz Borgia led the offense in the second half with 10 and six points, respectively. Borgia was 3-for-4 from the field, while Murphy shot 3-for-5.
Hiltz and Murphy each finished with 14 points. Chaklos finished with 10 points and a team-high six assists in her LVC debut.
Hiltz was also sharp on defense, creating scoring chances for her team with five steals.
The Dutchmen host the Rinso Marquette Tournament Friday and Saturday. They open against Gallaudet Friday night at 6 p.m. Pitt-Bradford and Penn State-Harrisburg will face off in the late game at 8 p.m.
