ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Lebanon Valley women's soccer scored a season-high three goals in a shutout victory over 24th-ranked Eastern Saturday afternoon, marking the first win over a nationally-ranked opponent in program history. Three different players scored for the Dutchmen and junior
Sami Young recorded her third victory of the season and fourth shutout.
The two teams remained scoreless through the first half, with Eastern (5-2-1) totaling 10 shots and holding Lebanon Valley (5-4-1) without one. The Eagles also had the advantage in corner kicks with five to LVC's one.
Freshman
Becca Sykes made her third start in goal, making two saves in the first half. Junior
Sami Young took over in the second half, also making two saves for the win.
Lebanon Valley struck first at 63:36 with a goal from sophomore
Nicole Snyder, her team-leading third of the season, off a long thrown in by freshman
Katie Deardorff. The Dutchmen added to their lead at 84:40 with freshman
Heather Tran's first collegiate tally. Senior
Ely Kirkhoff started the play, taking a free kick that Tran sent into the back of the net. Senior
Lauren King scored her first of the season a minute later after freshman
Lindi Crist served the ball over the defense to a streaking King.
The Dutchmen posted five shots to the Eagles two in the second half, while Eastern held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
LVC returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts DeSales for a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
