ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley's fourth-quarter comeback attempt wasn't enough as it fell to Alvernia, 9-7, at Arnold Field on Wednesday.
The Dutchmen (2-10, 0-8 MAC) managed to cut a four-goal deficit in half, but the Crusaders (4-10, 1-7 MAC) held on for their conference win of the season.
Alvernia's Robert Finnegan led with three goals, while #
Brendon Cummings# and #
Kyle Stewardson# each had a pair for the Dutchmen. #
CJ Adams# added a goal and an assist.
Stewardson opened the game with a feed from #
Ty Fosnacht#, but AU's Jarrod Wiedow tied it up before Cummings gave LVC the lead back with 4:26 to go in the first.
That would be LVC's last goal until #
Ian Schmid# scored from Adams with 6:53 to go in the second quarter; in the meantime, Alvernia went on a 3-0 run to take a lead they would not relinquish, eventually going up 7-3 just after the half with opening goals by Chris Baker and longpole Ryan Przyborowski.
Stewardson stopped the Alvernia run with a goal late in the third, and Cummings added a man-up tally from Schmid to end the quarter and cut the lead to 7-5.
Any comeback attempt was stopped, however, when Finnegan and Dan Hoffstetter scored around Adams' man-up goal in the fourth quarter, and #
Scott Sutton# added a late consolation goal in the fourth.

Ethan Hilberg# made 12 saves to keep LVC in the game; counterpart Kevin Shupp stopped six. It was an even game statistically, with Alvernia holding a 31-28 edge on shots and face-offs even at 10-for-20 each. Defensively, #Steven Wildberger# had four caused turnovers and seven ground balls for LVC.
