ANNVILLE, Pa. - Freshman #
Ty Fosnacht# sent the game to overtime with a buzzer-beater goal at the end of regulation, but Misericordia's Kyle Calabro scored with 1:10 remaining in triple OT to lift the Cougars, 8-7, over LVC in a drama-packed game at Arnold Field.
The Dutchmen (2-8, 0-6 MAC) scored three times in the final 6:40 of regulation, including Fosnacht's goal with no time remaining, to force overtime, then outshot the Cougars (3-8, 1-5 MAC) 6-4 in extra time but came up empty-handed.
LVC controlled the ball for much of the game, holding a wide 39-23 shots advantage but failing to convert as Misericordia took a 2-1 halftime lead.
The Dutchmen knotted the game up on #
Ian Schmid#'s goal to start the third quarter, and that jump-started an action-packed second half as Misericordia answered with two quick strikes by Joshua Schwartz and Matt Gonzalez.
Defenseman #
Rich Drazin# scored his first career goal in the third when he scooped a loose ball past goalkeeper Ryan Kay on a breakaway run, but MU's J.R. Lauri scored to end the quarter and give his side a 5-3 advantage.
After #
CJ Adams# cut the lead to a goal to start the fourth, Misericordia got some cushion with goals by Patrick McTague and Zach Buckley, going up 7-4. The Dutchmen defense, however, held MU scoreless over the rest of regulation, and Adams's goal at 6:40 followed by a man-up goal by Fosnacht 1:16 later put LVC a goal down.
LVC controlled but could not find the chance they needed, and the game appeared all but over when Schmid sailed a shot high and out the end with 1.9 seconds remaining. #
Kyle Stewardson# had other plans, however, and found Fosnacht to the right of goal off the restart as the freshman executed a perfect catch and scoop to score at the horn and send the game to overtime.
The Dutchmen had to kill a man-down situation immediately in the first overtime, then had their best scoring chance in the third OT when Drazin bounced a breakaway shot onto the crossbar. That immediately set up the Misericordia goal as Brian Ratajczak won the ground ball, cleared, and Calabro converted a feed by McTague less than a minute later.
#
Ethan Hilberg# was the hard-luck loser, making seven saves, including two in overtime. Kay stopped seven, with one OT save. LVC was 2-for-7 on extra-man opportunities to Misericordia's 0-for-4.
LVC will head to DeSales on Saturday.
