Softball Splits With Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley softball split a doubleheader at Arcadia Saturday afternoon. LVC posted a 2-0 shutout in the first game, while Arcadia recorded the come from behind victory in the nightcap for a 6-5 victory.

GAME ONE

The Dutchmen struck first in the third inning, scoring one run. Junior Meghan Donoghue led off with a double to left field and moved to third off a sacrifice bunt. A sacrifice fly from senior Kristen Uhas sent Donoghue home for the early 1-0 lead.

LVC added a run in the fourth with a solo home run from junior Katie Freeman, her third of the season.

Arcadia had runners in scoring position throughout the game, but junior Val Malizzia held the Knights scoreless. She pitched the complete game, allowing just five hits and striking out one.

GAME TWO

Lebanon Valley started with Donoghue scoring off a single to center by senior Allie Davies.

The two teams remained scoreless through the next four innings, before the Dutchmen added two runs in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead. Davies started with a double to center field and scored off a single by Freeman. Junior Marisa Krause drew a walk to reach first and advanced to third on two passed balls. A single to left field from sophomore Chelsea Detwiler scored Krause.

Arcadia stormed back in the sixth, scoring six runs on three hits to pull ahead by three runs. A grand slam from Virginia Buechel gave the Knights the lead.

LVC couldn't put together a comeback in the seventh as Kelsey Roberts retired all three batters to claim the victory.

Junior Laura Snyder pitched six innings for Lebanon Valley, striking out 12 in the loss.

The Dutchmen host Moravian on Tuesday for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
