ANNVILLE, Pa. – Lebanon Valley softball posted two wins over Elizabethtown Thursday afternoon to remain perfect in Commonwealth Conference play with a 6-0 record. The Dutchmen recorded both wins in dramatic fashion, scoring runs in the seventh inning of both games. LVC tallied a 5-4 win in game one and a 2-1 victory in the nightcap.
Junior
Meghan Donoghue batted in three runs for LVC in the first game, while sophomore
Kerri Datres and senior
Caitlin Keller both notched three hits. Donoghue continued in the nightcap, going 3-for-3, and sophomore
Kristen Palmerio was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
GAME ONE
Donoghue opened the first with a solo home run, her third of the season, and Elizabethtown responded with a two-run homer from Elly McCarthy in the top of the second.
LVC tied the game in the bottom of the second, with senior
Janey Kozlowski scoring junior
Katie Freeman with a single to right field.
The Dutchmen pulled ahead, scoring two runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. A double from Donoghue sent Kozlowski and pinch runner
Chelsea Artz home.
Again the Blue Jays fought back, scoring two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game. LVC prevented the game from going to extra innings with senior
Allie Davies opening with a double to left center and scoring off a double to right center by Keller.
Junior
Val Malizzia earned the win for Lebanon Valley, pitching the complete game and striking out five.
GAME TWO
Lebanon Valley scored first in the second game with a run in the second inning. Davies drew a walk to open the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice fly and scored on a double to left field by Palmerio.
Elizabethtown reached the scoreboard in the fifth inning with a run scoring off a single.
The Dutchmen continued their late inning heroics with Palmerio opening the seventh with a double to left, moving to third on a sacrifice fly and scoring off a double by
Chelsea Kehr.
Junior
Laura Snyder pitched the complete game, striking out 10 of the 25 batters she faced for her seventh win of the season.
