Softball Records Two Wins Over Albright

READING, Pa. – The Lebanon Valley softball team remained perfect in Commonwealth Conference play with two wins over Albright Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen posted a 4-2 victory in nine innings in the first game, and tallied an 11-0 win in five innings in the nightcap. Junior Meghan Donoghue secured the victory in the first game with a two-run homer in the ninth inning to break the tie, while senior Allie Davies was perfect at the plate in the nightcap, scoring two runs and batting in four runs with a grand slam.
 
GAME ONE
Junior Val Malizzia started in the circle, pitching all nine innings. She allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out 10 batters for her seventh win of the season.
 
LVC reached the scoreboard in the second inning when junior Katie Freeman hit a solo home run to right field.
 
The Dutchmen maintained their one run lead until the sixth inning when senior Allie Davies hit a homer to center field to push LVC ahead by two runs.
 
Albright broke up Malizzia's scoreless game in the bottom of the sixth with two runs scoring on three hits. One run scored off an error for the Lions, while a double from Becky Crandall batted in the other.
 
Both teams remained scoreless in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings.
 
Lebanon Valley came through in the ninth with a two-run home run to left field from Donoghue, and Malizzia retired all three batters in the bottom of the inning to claim the win.
 
All three plays to score runs for the Dutchmen were home runs. LVC has hit eight homers this season, with four of them coming against Albright on Saturday.
 
GAME TWO
Freshman Steffani Secola started things off in the second for LVC with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, and rounded the bases off a double by Freeman for the early 1-0 lead. LVC added to its lead the following inning with an error scoring a run.
 
The Dutchmen put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, scoring nine runs on eight hits. Davies opened the inning with a single to center and advanced to third after Freeman doubled to right field. Davies scored on a single by sophomore Kristen Palmerio and an error sent another run across home plate. Sophomore Chelsea Kehr continued with an RBI single and a hit from Donoghue loaded the bases. A walk sent another run in for LVC and a single from senior Kristen Uhas scored a run. With the bases loaded and one out in the inning, Davies hit her second home run in as many games to left field, a grand slam to score four runs.
 
Junior Laura Snyder pitched all five innings for LVC, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out 11 batters.
 
The Dutchmen are 14-4 on the season and hold a 4-0 record in Commonwealth Conference play.
 
LVC travels to Delaware Valley on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
