ANNVILLE, Pa. - Lebanon Valley opened Commonwealth Conference play Saturday afternoon with two shutout victories over Lycoming. The Dutchmen recorded a 4-0 win in the first game and a 2-0 victory in the second game of the doubleheader. Freshman Steffani Secola posted three hits, two runs and two RBIs through both games, including her first collegiate home run.
LVC started the first game with a run to take an early 1-0 lead. Junior Meghan Donoghue opened with a single to center, advanced to second off a sacrifice bunt, and moved to third after a hit by pitch loaded the bases. A passed ball sent Donoghue home for the tally.
Junior Val Malizzia started in the circle for Lebanon Valley and limited Lycoming to two hits for her fifth win of the season. She struck out nine hitters, including all three Warriors batters in the second inning.
The Dutchmen added three more runs in the third inning to seal the victory. Donoghue started things off after reaching first on an error and advancing to second off a sacrifice bunt. Senior Kristen Uhas reached base on another error and Donoghue scored on the play. Secola then hit a two-run homer to center field for the Dutchmen.
The Warriors were unable to complete the comeback, leaving two on base in the fifth and sixth.
In the second game, sophomore Kerri Datres was 2-for-2 at the plate, while junior Katie Freeman and sophomore Chelsea Detwiler both batted in runs for the Dutchmen.
Lebanon Valley reached the scoreboard in the second inning, with Secola hitting a double to center. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored off a single by Freeman.
After retiring the first six batters through the first two innings, junior Laura Snyder found her way out of a jam to strand three Lycoming players on base in the third.
The Dutchmen added another run in the sixth with pinch runner Steph Hulme scoring off a single to center by Detwiler.
Snyder pitched the complete game for LVC, striking out nine for her fourth win of the season.
LVC continues conference play Sunday with a doubleheader at DeSales beginning at noon.
